Steel Buildings: Garages, Shops, and Barns

Steel buildings are made to order. Price depends on size, snow and wind loads, doors, and delivery, so the useful step is getting several quotes. Below: what to compare, suppliers whose websites we checked, and one form to ask for quotes.

Who this page is for

Garage

You want a detached garage for cars, a truck, an RV, or a boat. Door size and count, eave height, and whether you need insulation drive most of the design.

Workshop

You need a heated or cooled shop with power, lighting, and room to work. Plan for insulation, walk doors, windows, and where the electrical and any plumbing will come in.

Barn and ag building

You are storing equipment, hay, or livestock. Clear-span width, large sliding or overhead doors, ventilation, and local snow load matter more than finish details.

Commercial

You are building a warehouse, storefront, hangar, or church. Expect stamped engineering, a building permit, and a licensed contractor to erect it. Several suppliers below sell through builder or dealer networks.

What to compare in every quote

Kit or erected
A kit is delivered to your site and you or your contractor put it up. An erected price includes construction. Ask each supplier which one their quote covers, and who you call if parts are missing or don't fit.
Engineer-stamped drawings
Most building departments want drawings stamped by an engineer licensed in your state, designed for your local snow, wind, and seismic loads. Confirm the stamp is included and which loads the building is designed for.
Delivery area and cost
Ask whether they deliver to your address, whether delivery is in the price, and what the truck needs to unload (access road, forklift or crew).
Who does the foundation
The slab or piers are usually your job, built to the supplier's anchor bolt plan. Ask when you get that plan and whether the quote assumes a particular foundation type.
Warranty terms
Get the warranty in writing. Note what it covers (frame, panels, paint or coating), for how long, and what voids it, such as improper assembly.

Suppliers we checked

Each site below loaded when we checked it on Oct 8, 2026. Descriptions come from each company's own homepage that day. A working website does not mean we have vetted the business. Listed alphabetically, not ranked. Locations come from each company's own site or public business listings. Distances are to a company's listed office, not a promise that it serves your area.

Your location stays in your browser and is not sent to Webcentive.

Other ways to get quotes

BuildingsGuide (buildingsguide.com) is a quote-matching service, not a building manufacturer. Its homepage says you fill out one form and it matches you with four suppliers from its partner manufacturers in the United States and Canada, who send free, no-obligation quotes. It is an alternative to our project assistant below. You can use either one, or both.

5. Site, timing, and permits

Design wind, snow, and seismic loads depend on the exact site and local code. The supplier confirms them for your ZIP code. Your county or city building department can tell you which code and permits apply where you are building.
